Why I become a SmartVestor Pro

Bill has been a long time listener of Dave Ramsey and his philosophy. When Bill learned about the Smartvestor Pro’s, he was eager to help people through the Dave Ramsey philosophy of the Seven Baby Steps, toward financial freedom.

7 Baby Steps

  1. Save $1,000 for your starter emergency fund.
  2. Pay off all debt (except the house) using the debt snowball.
  3. Save 3-6 months of expenses in a fully-funded emergency fund.
  4. Invest 15% of your household income in retirement.
  5. Save for your children’s college fund.
  6. Pay off your home early.
  7. Build wealth and give.

Baby Steps Four through Seven

Once you have completed baby steps one through three it's time to engage with a Smartvestor Pro. Baby step four has a number of variables, should the 15% go toward pretax or Roth savings? Does your company have a retirement plan? What asset mix do I pick? What do I do with my old IRA's? This is where a Smartvestor Pro can help guide you toward making the right long term decisions. Saving for college isn't easy either each State has a 529 plan and some have multiple plans, as a Smartvestor Pro, I can educate you on your choices. For the last two steps, I am here to help you pursue financial freedom.

Baby Step One through Three

Baby steps one through three should be completed before reaching out to a SmartVestor Pro. Baby step one is pretty straight forward, save up $1,000 for your emergency starter fund. Step two requires a little more work, pay off all debts outside your home mortgage. Dave advocates toward the debt snowball method, to pay down your debts, this method has a consumer behavioral psychology component that encourages this behavior. Once you get these debts out of the way it's time to build up an emergency fund. Three to six months' worth of living expenses are important to have on hand to avoid putting money on a credit card.
